Tons of fun...

This morning I woke up feeling like a kid waking up on Christmas morning. I was so excited to get outside and get my bike on the road. I woke up around 6:30, put on my biking attire, and headed out the door. I went for an hour wide, and it was awesome. It was beautiful to see the sun come up, and very peaceful at that hour in the morning. Here are a few insights from my ride this morning…

1. My bike is in great shape. It rides great. Spending a little money to get it tuned up was well worth it. However, I’m not in the best biking shape. I like to run, but running is a lot different than biking and uses different muscles. Nonetheless, it was still fun, but my legs hurt.

2. I took a funny spill this morning – thankfully no one was around. Here’s the scoop – I have new pedals and shoes on my bike, and today was my first time out on the open road with them. Let’s just say this, they are quite a bit different than regular pedals. Once your foot is in, it’s in, and you must twist your ankle to get out of them. I’m in the process of getting used to them, but they can be quite tricky. Well, I stopped to enjoy the scenery and get a drink this morning, and when I started up again I had one foot secured to the pedal, but the other one was not secure. I gently pushed off, hoping to get the other foot into the pedal so I could resume my ride. However, I was unable to clip in fast enough, and as I slowed to a stop my bike began to fall over, and I couldn’t unclip quick enough to put my foot down. So, there I was on the side of the road looking like an idiot. I had a good laugh, but I was very thankful no one was around to see it.

3. My toes got cold this morning. I’m going to need to get some new socks.

This morning, I had a blast, and I can’t wait to do it again. I’m even hoping to ride to work a lot this summer – that would be a round trip of 14 miles each day.

The learning clipless pedal crash is classic :) Don't worry we've all done it. In a couple more rides they'll be second nature.

Every now and then I try to run. Then I quit...and just walk.

Run Dave, Run.
