Dreams and creating a mess...

Recently, I came across a blog that I've been enjoying lately. It's the blog of a pastor named Jeff and he is the pastor of a church down in North Carolina called lifepoint. He has a lot of interesting things to say about church, and how they are doing church at Lifepoint.

An entry I really loved was Jeff's entry called poop for profit. To read the entry click here. In the entry I was challenged by the question Jeff asks. He asks, "how much mess are you willing to put up with to see your dreams come true?"

Good question. I have dreams in my life. I've had dreams in my life. Some I accomplished. Some I didn't. Why? Because I was too afraid of going through the mess, or doing the hard work to accomplish them.

Right now, there are dreams in my life...
- I would love to compete in and complete a triathlon.
- I want to run a marathon some day.
- I want to go to France someday and watch the Tour de France.
- I want to be the best husband and father I possibly can.
- Empower, invest in, and give leadership to the great volunteers in the teen ministry. For too long I’ve tried to do everything myself, because frankly, that’s a lot easier. I want to work towards mentoring people, trusting people, and allowing them to lead in their own way.
- Consistently demonstrate the love of Jesus to people in a practical, tangible way.
- Work on deepening relationships and friendships with people in my life.
- Work on a crab boat in Alaska. (really not a dream, I’m just fascinated with the show Deadliest Catch.)

Looking at these dreams, the question hits me again. Am I willing to go through the mess to accomplish these dreams? We’ll see.

Dave,

I was just looking over your blog. You've got lots of great stuff on here. Thanks for dropping by my sight. I'd love to hear more about what you are doing up in Michigan. Let me know if I can ever help with anything.
